Each year in Melbourne there is an art competition called “Linden Postcard Show.” My friend and I have entered three times in the last four years. We never win anything but we usually sell at least one piece.

This year we each entered three pieces and I thought “hey, why don’t I embroider three doilies with images on Melbourne landmarks?”

Three insane weeks later…

Eureka Tower

The Eureka Tower, with a cut-work border

Art Centre Spire

The Spire of the Arts Centre

The Yellow Peril

And the Yellow Peril (aka “The Vault), a controversial sculpture commissioned by the city in the 70’s (I think?) which was immediately hated by the Melbourne people.

I nearly didn’t get these finished in time, I had to spend 24 hours straight in the last days sitting on the couch watching dvds and drinking Red Bull trying to get them finished. I wouldn’t have been able to do it without the help of the Amazing Megan. So thank you so much Amazing Megan I owe you big time chuckles.

The exhibition is on for one more week and I’ve sold two of them already. Which is enormously gratifying.

UPDATE- 8/3/2008-
The last Melbourne doily sold on the 7th of March. Woo hoo! I was so happy when the lady from the gallery called to tell me, but her response to my enthusiasm was very underwhelming.
